Surviving Infidelity – Deal with Betrayal, Cheating, and Affairs in Marriage

Infidelity definition states that it is the betrayal of trust or defilement of innate and/or agreed-upon rules governing an intimate relationship. It usually associated with a marriage and is also referred to as being unfaithful or having an affair. It is considered by many as the worst thing that could happen to a relationship as it often leads to breaking up. Being classified as a cheater or player in modern context depends on the point of view of the partners and setup of the relationship. The issue may be difficult to establish when the accused is known to be polygamous or if the relationship has been agreed to be an open one. But when things have not been talked about the relationship is deemed to be monogamous.

 

 

Infidelity can also be defined as treachery or betrayal of the innocent partner’s good faith in the guilty partner. In relationships bound by law such as marriages the act has its established sets of punishments if the accused spouse is found guilty by the courts. An act can or cannot be considered a form of infidelity based on several other factors such as cultures and tradition in the area where the partners live and the implied and verbal rules set. Conducting an act which is specifically prohibited according to the agreement of both partners can be considered infidelity even if the act is not listed by the law as a determinant of infidelity. The pain is usually brought about by knowledge of the partner purposely using dishonesty to defy set expectations within the relationship.

 

Amongst all the known areas of a close relationship, it usually starts to develop either in the area of physical intimacy or the area of emotional intimacy. It the first area can be describes as having sexual intercourse or erotic acts with someone else other than the partner. Sexual infidelity if conducted in marriage can also be called adultery; otherwise it can simply be termed as cheating. Emotional affair on the other hand is defined as deep emotional attachment to someone other than the partner. It is not limited only to personal involvement but also to online or by-mail involvement. Emotional infidelity is considered by many as even more painful than sexual infidelity.
